Missing the RV

Our RV is in Colorado and we are in Arizona, home stretch to retirement, getting ready to pack and sell our house here. It is surprising how much I miss having the RV parked outside to putter around with. Good that I don't have the distraction from the work at hand I guess.
Took the grandkids to Standley Lake, the closest campsite to our new home in Colorado for a weeknight overnight at the end of the season. Drove it out this summer and flew home.
It will be a great pastime taking them camping regularly when we get out there again though.
  • I hear ya on grandkids! We're lucky that our 2 live close to us here.

Plenty of boondocking here in CO (oh wait - don't say that on a public forum!) There is NO camping in CO! We're full! :)

I believe all the National Forests/BLM allow boondocking - at least I've not run into any areas that didn't.

Next step up is plentiful primitive NF/BLM campgrounds, and a bunch of State Park campgrounds, too. You just have to drive a little ways from the Denver Metro area to get away from the crowds, but not bad, really.

I can see why you miss your Class C ... that's a sweet little go-anywhere E350 rig you have there.

Thanks pnichols, and you have given good advice along the way!
I have thought that if we were to replace ours the closest thing would be a second hand rental--those 19 footers, or a View, once they get old enough to be less expensive.
So many people need the bed so it makes sense to build most of them that way, but if you are not suffering from physical ailments, the loft bed is really comfortable (with a topper) and the close dinette seats make it easy to climb up and down with a stool on the bench.
We have done our share of tail dragging on back roads and we have rattled the poor thing to loose screws, but our overhead seems to have stayed dry and we continue to get back where few longer rigs can go.
I do not regret getting into this little RV at all. We bought it in December 2009, so 4 years of fun so far! Actually we bought it from a couple who lived in Colorado and retired to Arizona, but were still going back and forth. They were wanting a bigger rig for health reasons too.
  • Ha, yeah, we are calling it "Reverse Retirement". AZ is hard to beat for year round RVing but for us, grandkids do it. We will miss the great camping here that is for sure. Lots of federal forests and BLM land with minimal rules and so few people who like boondocking as much as we do. I'm looking forward to being in the mountains and the Colorado state parks and maybe we can drive far enough to get to some less restricted forest camping rules. (Thanks for the welcome--we'll be living in Arvada!)
You all are right about great times ahead!
  • Wait - isn't that a little backwards? Retiring from AZ and moving to CO? Most folks out here do it the other way around! :)
Anyway, welcome to CO when you get here!
  • nice little winnie. we've been full-timing now since the 1st of may with a long list of ideas for places we want to go once the weather settles down next spring. currently relaxing in pahrump (NV) at preferred RV park--nice--day time temps high 60's--high 30's at night. will also have to spend some time back at the paper residence and get that settled as well....still have a few things to sell. time to simplify!
  • I can see why you miss your Class C ... that's a sweet little go-anywhere E350 rig you have there. I've admired it and where you go with it for quite some time!

Sometimes I wish our 24V Itasca was a couple of feet shorter, but the DW needed a full-time down bed for quick rests with her bad back.

I don't think Winnebago has offered an Itasca Class C like yours for a long time ... the last year they even offered my Itasca model was 2005 or 2006.
