Rarely do we use the freeways, only back roads. We did the exact same route a few years ago with no problems whatsoever. You'll enjoy the trip it you take your time to do so. Don't be in a hurry and be considerate of the drivers behind you. Also, I wouldn't go in the winter due to rain and snow.....Dennis
