mold smell from shower drain

Our recently acquired 2001 Winnebago Ultimate Advantage has a problem with a moldy smell coming out of the drain when we take a shower. We had a similar problem with the sink, and a thorough cleaning right at the drain fixed it. In the shower, we cleaned out the strainer (which was pretty black underneath), but it only helped a little. I understand the trap is not right under the shower, and I wonder if it's moldy further down the pipe. I am very sure this is not a sewer smell from the holding tank, and the smell is definitely coming from the drain.

Has anyone else had a similar problem?

Thanks!
  • Take the screen off and using what ever works, pull out the hair and gunk. Follow it with a couple cups of bleach.

Dump a bunch of baking soda down hole and pour in vinegar. It'll foam like mad and cleans stuff up real good.

    X2

I use this method all the time in the RV and at that house and it REALLY works. Breaks up soap scum and everything else. Be sure after the vinegar/baking soda foam up like a volcano you pour real hot water down the drain that helps wash away everything.

Do you have one of those glass octagon type showers that you have to step up to? A lot of times it leaks 'underneath' the pan and you might be smelling the mold from that.

Second that! We had the same issue in our house and this worked wonders.
