Monaco owners

Whoa ...... You are NOT looking at a 2006 Monaco Cayman, if it is a 40' model with a RR8R chassis. No such creature existed. This must be a Monaco Knight or Diplomat. Check which engine it has to confirm. The Cayman came with the 300 ISB only and the Knight came with the 325 ISC as standard and could be ordered with the 400 ISL. You have a much better chassis and ride with the 8 bag RR8R chassis plus everything else is upgraded. Get the VIN or the Monaco serial number and call the number Dennis gave you. They will tell you exactly what and when it was built plus send you the actual build sheet for the coach. You may have just come across that needle in a haystack find .......

We sold our 2002 Safari this summer after many years/miles of wonderful trouble free RVing. My experience with Monaco was all positive and our Safari was a well built quality coach.

Monaco was very good in 2005-06. The 2006 coaches had 4" of added ceiling height. Yes, you will want to look for an RR8R chassis. The Diplomat and Endeavor are the same coach. The 2005 and 2006 had the 400 ISL, which is a good engine, and the Allison 3000 transmission. Other than normal maintenance, the top caps tend to have a problem with the clear coat bubbling. Over all, a fairly good coach at a reasonable price.

HUGE difference ....... The Camelot is waaayyy up the food chain from the Cayman. I would have NO problem or hesitation going for a Camelot. Do you need the link to the brochure for the coach?

I would pass on a Cayman and step up a bit to another model. The 4 bag had many problems and they don't handle well. Wont cost you much to move up the ladder.

Pretty sure 2006 may be the year that the Camelot had windshield popping out problems. If the windshield has sharp 90 degree corners... small radius then you need to call Monaco with the last six of the Vin# to confirm and if they have a record of the extra bracing being added to the front cap. You can look under the front cap for metal braces added to the corners at the bottom. Not a deal breaker if the bracers have been added.

Monaco's customers support is still one of the best... even with a new owner. I'm at 11 years with my Dynasty and plan on keeping it for another 11+. If I had to replace... it would be another Dynasty or Executive in the 04-07 years.

Monaco is a good brand,but not perfect as you would think,they all have problems,but,some could be avoided. My new 2005 monaco was never aligned so tires were gone at 10 k. No caster shims,and towed out one inch.Did not lube anything,driveshaft fell out at 11 k,nothing but rust in the u joints.Bed slide broke first year,stove fell through the counter,sink fell through counter,many smaller things.

I special ordered my 08 Camelot and have never had one day I was disappointed in the fit and function of the coach. Monaco did have windshield issues up until the 09 models when they changed the curvature of the corners from near 90* to a more flat design. The windshield mod is called a halo kit which I had the factory install on my Camelot when the corner of the windshield cracked. This was under warranty when Monaco was still a viable operation. If I was to trade up I'd be looking at a Camelot 42' tag but I'm very happy with my rig so a trade is not in my future. I did install front and rear anti-sway bar kits and a reflex steering stabilizer to make the rig easier to handle, but it did just great for 8 years, just wanted to try it. Oh, I also replaced the Monroe shocks with Koni FSD's, and the steer axle and drive axle tires. You will love that Camelot.

Just a note about that driveshaft. The Monaco and Freightliner manuals state that the driveshaft needs to be greased every 5000 miles. By 11,000 miles YOU should have greased the driveshaft two times. Don't blame the manufacture for this one.
