travlr yes you do not have to leave connected. It has other functions and can be hooked up as needed to clear codes etc.
I run a scan gauge 2 from the port to monitor engine points such as volts, water temp etc. They seem to work well together. Mainly used one for my F series and bought another for the van. You can also monitor the speedo and see how far it off from the dsash panel, monitor fuel avg mpg's etc. A handy little tool.
Will let all know tonight when we stop what I find.
