Motorhome sway

Way too many miles driven today for an intelligent reply now. Will hit a scale tomorrow check tow bar connections again. Definitely feels like the rear end is steering the front at times. Thanks all for the great info. Will post again when I know more.

All connections on the tow bar are tight, no play, except where the tow bar mounts into the motorhome receiver. There is about 1/16th vertical play but this only results in a total of 1/2" max movement on the tow bar and it's vertical not horizontal. Arms are locked in place. Will scale everything later.

There is no drop/rise adaptor on tow bar.

BlueOx offers a similar one, and another that has two clamps at 90-deg. That squeezes the drawbar into one vertical and one horizontal surface of the receiver. The one pictured squeezes in one direction only. Probably adequate, but there are options.

I have tried almost every Anti Rattle device on the market, most have been no good or so complicated and cumbersome that they are useless. Including the Blue OX.
Until I found the one at Hitch Rider.

Their Hitch Vice is the best and easiest one I have come across and it really works.

The scales show I have too much weight in the rear. Moving weight froward now and will drive a while and see what difference it makes. Thanks.

The bar moves in 2 directions, side to side and up/down. I had that problem in 2 places because I had to use a bar to raise the bar height. Drilled and welded a nut too the top and side with bolts to clamp the tops and sides of both receiver connections. Made a huge difference. The movement in the receivers allows the car to move the rear of the motorhome. Found that those rattle clamps seem to keep getting loose. Need to tighten the clamp many times. It is not sway, it is the dog wagging the tail effect.

The front axle needs to have at least 80% of the max rating for proper handling.

In theory having the appropriate amount of loading on the front tires is a requirement for proper handling.

However, Winnebago has apparently compensated for the lower loading on the front axle in the Aspect/Cambria Motorhomes. Often we had much less than optimum loading on the front axle and on our 9000 mile trip through many types of terrain and weather pulling a small trailer and it handled very comfortably. It drove much better than our 23ft class C which had a higher front axle load.

Not sure how they have it set up, but on the two Aspect motorhomes we have driven, the handling as been very crisp, clean, and comfortable. Its fun to drive.

Now, if we were to try pulling a toad like Vach is doing.....that might be a completely different story. Will be interested to hear if there is a solution to the tail wagging the dog problem they are having. We may have to stick with trailering a scooter as a toad.

Finally back in civilization with internet connection. That made a significant difference. Moved weight forward and lower and was surprised by the handling improvement. First motorhome, second time out. I'm learning how much I don't know. I have more things to move and at least one more scale visit and will see if that makes more difference yet. Thanks to all of you for your info and suggestions. PS. My better half is driving now and she feels comfortable driving again!!
