I worked in highway construction for several years and
I never saw this type of action ever. IMHO this is an old wives tail as it relates to giving over weight tickets without weighing. They get paid by the ton mile and every load has a ticket stating its tare weight and the Gross weight. If a trucker can make their tare weight lighter such as no spare tire or empty fuel tanks they can make more $$$ Of course you can stop that by making them get a tare weight before loading every time. Just takes two trips over the scales. We would check tickets to make sure that they were not over weight.

Easier to give them out in the parking lot and they are sure to be overweight sometime during the week, and no manhandling of the portable scales!! Happens every day!!!
