Thinking about booking a stay at Mountain Falls Resort in NC for class A mhs. Any experiences, pros, cons, tips for this place?? Thanks!
We go there once a year (usually in August) and love it! In addition to the comments above, a couple other things make it special for us:
- A couple miles away is Gorges State Park, and if you enjoy hiking, it's not to be missed. Great trails wind past numerous waterfalls. Pack a lunch and enjoy the day.
- Sapphire Valley and Cashiers are not too far away. If you have the chance, Gamekeepers Tavern in Sapphire Valley is really fun. They have a wide variety of "wild" dishes, like elk, bison, rabbit, trout, and a couple trips ago I actually had kangaroo. No kidding.
- If you're a golfer, there are some great golf courses in the area, but Mountain Falls itself has a little chip-and-putt course that winds around the resort that is kinda fun.
Our last couple trips are described on our little travel blog, here (August 2013) and here (August 2014).
As noted above, you do have to be a little careful about which route you take to get there. We travel up from the south, via SC-11 and SC-130/NC-281, and it's fine. However, there are alternates that you definitely do not want to take. Mountain Falls has a driving directions page, and it's worth reading before your trip.
