Fire up is exactly right. I just went through the same thing but on a Cummins ISC. I thought it strange when I removed the old filter and no fuel leaked out. Turns out it was all sucked back into the tank. I had raised the rear of the motor home to get better access underneath. With only 1/3 tank of fuel there wasn't enough pressure to keep the fuel in the line.
