My antenna is also a Winegard Batwing and if I raise it and aim like the others in the campground, I get as many channels on the average as the other folks. I have even forgotten to set back to Antenna from Cable and still get some channels. I have replaced all of the old crimpr ring and screw on "F" connectors with compression type fittings.
Parked in front of my house in Eagle Rock(N/E LA City)with the power supply on and the batwing in the stored position, I got 63 channels. When I raised and rotated toward the mountain with most of the stations, I didn't get any more but a lot came in clearer and without pixelation. Some stations are 1080 some are 480 so you don't need new and improved you need upgrading.
So I would say the first responce is correct, new clean f connectors will improve the operation a lot.
