These BAT WING antenna have to be pointed at the TV transmitting station to pick them up. Since the Natl Broadcast changed over to most all TV stations now transmitting in HDTV mode the added dipoles really help out receiving those being transmitter on the higher frequency TV bands...
You probably are aware of this already but the BATWING has a pre-amplifier inside the housing above your RV unit. this is controlled by what they call a TV WALL PLATE... Operation of all of this looks like this...

The BATWING Antenna is really a great antenna and hard to beat. I use one in my OFF-ROAD POPUP TRAILER setup and get bunches of HDTV station just about everywhere we go...
