It’s milestone time!
I’m way behind on my engine swap project. It’s been thunderstorms every day and today was no exception. However this afternoon cleared up and I finally got my old engine out. That is with the help of a longtime friend who drove out from Houston as well as mpaton, a fellow RVer from this website. He’d done a similar engine swap in his Winnebago a few years ago and knowing what a job it was he kindly stopped by and helped! It was really nice having him here to point out helpful things he’d learned doing his own swap.
Here’s a picture of me with the old engine that my friends insisted on taking. I feel like the worlds dirtiest sweatiest fisherman standing next to his blue marlin. I’m really glad to get that part of the job behind me!
FWIW the concrete blocks the RV front wheels are resting on were borrowed from another friend of mine who owns a nearby large mobile home park. These are not decorative concrete blocks but rather blocks engineered to permanently support mobile homes and they’re really heavy. Bob had a bunch of these blocks and assured me he'd never had one fail in his park.
I'd drained the radiator but wasn't able to drain the block before removing the engine. It's been my experience that anti-freeze will evaporate very quickly and there's no pets nearby to drink the spilled anti-freeze.
