And it only applies to flat tappet cams.
As by the '90's nearly all engines (hopefully yours!) had roller cams by then.
Cam breakin in a non-issue with a roller cam.
The ol 460 just barely got out of the stone ages with its port fuel injection introduction in 1988. No roller cam or OBD II for any 460s. BUT! Ford managed to meet EPA requirements on F53s with out a catalytic converter for the last 4 years of production. 1994-1997.
