I used to go camping anywhere. All by myself in a sleeping bag or pup tent on the AP trail... Have spent a many nights sleeping on top of the picnic table of recent times because it was too hot in the POPUP trailer hehe...
Be out on the end of a trail in Arizona Country... Probably could see my camp fire for miles away... Would camp all by myself up in the Shenandoah s or along the Blue Ridge... No help could get to you if you wanted it to...
Being a somewhat big sized country boy I never thought twice about it...
These days with the economy like it is I sort of get uneasy myself now running the back woods trails...
Got cornered one time by a bad looking trio of boys turning around in an abandoned parking on South Blvd in Montgomery ALA of recent times and the local Police saw the problems I might be getting into and pulled in to get me turned around... Was told by the local police this was not the place for me and my wife to be in... The whole SOUTH BLVD in Montgomery is almost like a war zone - all of the real old and nice night clubs and hotels I used to visit in my working days are all boarded up there now with the windows barred. Brings a tear to the eye...
Now that I am 73 years old don't know if I would want to do any lone camping now or not... Might look like an easy picking for the local thugs...
Guess one has to just be aware of the surroundings and look like you know what you are doing... Common sense goes a long way... A loud Police Scanner probably helps as well...
I do carry and will protect my hard earned things with no hesitation. I most definitely will make alot of noise on my way out of harms way... Just the way we Illinois Horse Creek farm boys are hehe...
I know I will be visiting my local State Park not too far from here to test out a bunch of things I have been working on with my OFF-ROAD Camper next season...
Will see how it goes...
