From a woman's standpoint..I stayed in our Fleetwood flair..about 8 yrs...in campgrounds all around Columbia SC for my husband's job.
He sometimes worked 10 or 12 hrs a day.
And the closest camping was not always the most desirable.
But I never had a problem. We have 3 little yapping dogs if anyone approached the site.
You'll only stop at rest areas if you are traveling..they're safe.
Most state parks are gates at night and so are some Corp of engineers.
Since you guys will be together not by herself..you'll be fine.
On that big diesel you'll have good locks ..plus you won't be staying at cheapest places.
Safe happy trails.
