Need a new house battery - any suggestions?

1997 Dodge Pleasure Way

So looks like I fried my house battery by leaving it plugged in for days...guess I cooked it. I had the original converter and I didn't realize that would fry my battery.

So I bought a new 3 stage converter and now I need a new battery. I had an Optima Yellow top in there 900 CA, 75 AH and 155 RT. Those batteries are $250+

So, looking for some suggestions. I am not a full time RV dweller and at most I might be without shore power for a week. The rest of the time, I will likely be able to plug in somewhere.

What do you think?

I heard COSTCO maybe has some good deals, but none of them were sealed.

Unfortunately I don't have room for 2 6V. I think I am leaning towards the AGMs since I understand the flooded batteries let off hazardous odors and I will likely have my kids in that small space.

Those AGMs sure do hitthe pocket book though. Dang. Any ideas on who has the lowest priced AGMs? I don;tthink I am going to stick with the Optimas. I've heard a lot of people have problems with them.

    Thanks,
    Mark

I agree with this. To take it a step further, you would ideally avoid any battery with cranking amps "CA" advertised at all. Most, if not all batteries designed to provide starting power do so by compromising their ability to repeatedly deep-discharge.
  • 6 volt golf cart batteries are the best. Two in series makes 12 volts.
Need a deep cycle battery for the house. Mine are Trojan. Interstate is a good brand too.

Might go to an auto parts store and see what they can get for you or to a golf cart place.

I like the idea of a sealed battery, or better, an AGM - less worry than having to maintain water levels.
