KOA in Mount Shasta is ok, for a night. Done that one to Seattle a few times, not to bad.
Have you thought about Amtrak?
That's kind of a tough 1200 miles, Portland, La, Cali mountains. road construction.
Would allow 3 days, as the above can make it a bit of a slow go
