Hi All,First off, I wanted to say hello to everyone...as I am new here. *waves*I am looking to get my first RV...and looking for a class B.Have done a fair amount of research, and am looking at a used Roadtrek...either a 170 or 190 Popular. Looking to spend up to 25K so maybe a 2000-2004??I will live in the rig about 75% of the time, and would like to get feedback:Rather than list all of my questions, are there some threads on plusses/minusses on these units? Things I need to look for?Maybe there's a book I should buy?I wanted to get this thread started and see what I can learn.I'm a newbie here...and am new to this world...so take it easy on me. :)Thanks in advance. :)KenKen

I did a search in the forum for Roadtrek and there are over 1200 entries with that word in them. It is really a good place to start. Be informed before you buy, it's well worth the time it takes.

You might try using this in your favorite search engine to locate some for sale -Roadtrek -directory site.craigslist.org However, you have to modify the string above by replacing the [period] between site and craigslist with a [colon like this :]. If I tried to insert it in this posting, you would see a happy face like this :c

R/T has a video. They would send you one if you called and asked, or try their website.john 'I am Canadian'

It would be easier for you to just ask the questions that you have. There is no book specifically about Roadtrek. There are books about RVs in general and these will explain systems, hooking up, etc. which will apply in most part to a Roadtrek. I found The Idiot's Guide to RVing by Brent Peterson to be very helpful when we were first starting out looking at RVs. When buying a pre-own you want to get as much information as you can about what you are being sold. You should have a mechanic go over the van components and an RV service tech go over the RV components. What you don't want to do is purchase something that will require another $10,000 in unexpected repairs. I looked from the time I joined the forum until I finally purchased my 06/07 Airstream Interstate in Feb 13, I looked at and drove a few during that time. The one I purchased was in my own backyard, I looked at it, drove, and took it home a week later. You will know when the right one comes along so be ready to move immediately. I listened to this advice when I pulled the trigger and it paid off!

Of all the systems. The most costly to replace is the fridge. Insist that it run on propane no matter how nice it looks.

@kennethholland -- I concur with Islandman's assessment. It took me nearly two years crisscrossing California searching and inspecting my candidates for purchase. This included a couple of airfares in addition to long-distance driving (in California, like Texas, anything under three hours is considered a commute).

Have patience, do your research and don't be too anxious to pull the trigger too soon. For me, it paid off quite handsomely, netting a good rig at a fantastic price that still hasn't been matched four years later.

While I love the RT 170 for its maneuverability through tight traffic, ease of parking in tight spots and that it's like just driving an SUV and not a 20 to 24 foot long larger van, a number of RT owners have told me that they feel that the RT 170 is just a little small for most full-timers and they would go with the RT 190 because of the additional space, more storage and the larger tank capacities. While I do not full-time and I went with a RT 190P, I do have some friends who don't full-time and have RT 170's

Don't buy sight unseen, and only buy after you've personally looked at it and driven to check for handling, etc. The only problem with buying out-of-state is you may decide against purchase and return home empty handed via bus or however you got to the seller's location. It may be possible to have someone at the seller's location look it over before you make your move, just a quick glance at the general condition will usually indicate whether the unit is worth your time and trouble to make further inquiry.
