Yes, the PW Plateaus with the i-5 are more economical than the V6s which replaced them. But, another reason is that they are shorter at 21 ft 11 ins and lighter than the newer ones at 22ft 9 inches or even up to 24 with some Sprinters. The later Sprinters seem to be duallies and a lot heavier than say, my 2006(with 2007 interior build) PW Plateau TS. I get usually around 30mpg(25 or so on US gallon) but i dont have a heavy foot and the roads here on the Island are mostly max 50 MPH(90 KPH). Ken was commenting that they are hard to find. True, here too in Canada and they tend to have higher mileage than some A and C Class rigs. I had 50k Miles on mine when I bought it but that is no problem with the i-5 diesel which is used for 100s of thousands by UPS and other long haul users. It is essential to have the service records and a full history in fact. I had that and knew the vehicle was in good shape and properly serviced. I have no experience with the MB V-6 diesel rigs but I am told they are quite reasonable on fuel consumption too.
