New MH windows aren't all flush or caulked?

My new Forester windows appear to not have any butyl tape and caulk around the frame. Nothing ooozing around, just a clean fit. On a few windows, there is a slight gap between the window frame and side of MH. I can see recessed in a little white which may be a caulk. I have washed the MH a few times and we had some occasional light rain and no visible leaks. We are heading up to the Sierra's tomorrow and may encounter wind, rain and snow. Should I run a bead of caulk around the frame? Problem is the frame is black and the MH has full body paint with patterns of white, grey and black around the frame. What color would I get, clear?

  • The frame-less windows are so very beautiful, clean, rich, and stylish. I just don't like the limited air flow of the awning style openings, some are small across the top or bottom. Though they offer good rain protection, I really appreciate our slider windows to get half the window open for lots of fresh air. We do need to rely on a real awning for rain protection but it also offers sun protection.

To you with frame-less windows with awning-style openings, how is that working out? Do you get enough air flow or does the heat build up inside? Just wondering.
  • Butyl tape is not normal around a window installation in a new motorhome. The window is installed in the hole and a bead of caulk laid around the exterior frame.
  • There is a gasket behind the window so you won't see any caulk oozing out. There should be no need to seal around the windows unless the seal dries out. If you seal the windows just use a clear sealant.
