New RV owner, trying to figure out issue with 94 Bounder

Greetings all,
So we recently finally bought a really nicely preserved 94 Bounder P30. The inside is in perfect condition, almost looks like it did coming off the showroom floor in 1994. Of course, the exterior looks it should for a 94 so I have some things to fix. The major thing I need to ask though, I was driving ahead of my wife as she drove the RV, and I saw that the drivers side was angled lower than the passenger side. I am guessing that the shock on the drivers side needs to be replaced then because of the droop, does this sound right? Also, when she is driving above 55 mph, it will sway. Any help because I can fix all mechanical issues, just need an idea where to start.

Thanks,
WIll

  • Droop is not a shock
droop could be the springs or the air bags inside the coil springs
i would start by checking the air bags, and replacing them
did it on two P30 chassis

its a simple job, but a lot of 'GRUNT' work, getting the new bags inside the springs
go slow use plenty of soap and water
the hardest part is rolling them up tight to squeeze in between the coils
having a vacuum pump to get them flat, might help
  • Many Fleetwood P-30 chassis of that vintage had air bags inside the front coil springs.
My guess is that it has leaked out for some reason. I had to replace mine a couple times before I had the coil springs replaced with ones that do not require them.
  • Shocks dont affect ride height. They affect bounce and to some extent, sway.

These era motor-homes weren't famous for great handling.

There are lots of aftermarket products that can help.

Steering stabilizers, HD sway bars, Davis Tru Track.

Ride height may load related or weak springs. Id start by getting all four corners weighted.

    Check your tire age, too.
  • First off do not tell your wife that her side of the coach was riding low.
Shocks prevent porpoising of a coach after hitting a bump. they do not support a load like a spring.
Didn't the P30's of that era have air bags inserted in the springs? If that is the case you could have a bad air bag or one that is low on air.
