More rural (and much slower) than a good portion of I-81 is taking Skyline Drive (through Shenandoah National Park) and the Blue Ridge Parkway. That's best not done during winter, and there are a few tunnels to watch the height on. They're all or nearly all barrel tunnels, so the height in the center is a lot greater than at the fog line, and most RVs can fit through by hugging the center line, but it may require some care and maybe someone to watch for traffic from the other end.
