If... and hopefully it never happens.. a blowout on the road.Motorhomes don't carry spares. So... if we get one out there and put on - what do they do with the blown one? Do we get the rim?It's got nice shiny rims so I assume we would want to keep it, but again.. where would one store it?

IF you have road side assistance (Coachnet, GS, etc) , and all goes as planned, you call the RSA, they find a tire dealer or shop that has your tire in a reasonable distance, bring you the tire and they mount it on your existing rim. You probably have wheel liners or covers over the steel rims. They remove the shiny part, replace the tire, and put the shiny part back on. Typically you will have to pay for the tire itself but not the service call or the labor.

The first answer is to keep your tires in good shape, properly inflated, not too old. Secondly, when you have trouble and call your road service company, the tire guy will come out and mount a new tire on your rim and send you on your way... after having removed sufficient bucks from your pocket, of course.

I depend a lot on my TPMS to give me advance notice of a leak so, hopefully, I can find a safe spot to pull over. If it's one of the rears one can limp on to a facility that can take care of the problem. Other than that I don't worry about it and will call coach net if and when it becomes necessary.

Tell the ERS what size tire you need, and they will make arrangements to get you one. But this route is not cheap for the price of the tire. If you have access to interent and can find out tire dealers in the area, and call them on cell phone, it can be cheaper. But a bit more inconvenient. And if you have RV sized tires that are not common in the trucking market, you might have a bit of a wait. But I still will not leave home without my CoachNet Card!!!

You would be ahead of the game to know your tire makes and sizes and report that to your roadside service in order for them to match the tire they bring out to service your flat. Not always a blowout can cause significant damage to the MH and possible a wreck...stay alert.

Newbee question again - flat tire on the road...

There are a lot of class As with 16" wheels. When we had one of those we carried a spare. Now with the 22.5s on the DP there is no room and even if there was I wouldn't be able to handle it.:E

We had a blowout last winter on the way to FL. 12:45am. front right. Scared the begebees out of us but after the shock hit, we pulled over at an exit ramp. Got our butt off the highway just enough and called Good Sam. They will help you through it. We THOUGHT we had a spare. They came to help us and he pulled it out of compartment. It also had a hole in the side of it from another blowout. The past owners put it back in the compartment and never told anybody it was bad. That was an expensive night.

Yes, as they found out, they will explode while sitting still. Never happened to me, but have heard of tires doing that other times (and not just on motor homes!).

You do not have to put it in or get it out. Purchase at a dealer and have them put it in basement. Coach net or Good Sam driver will take it out of basement for you

Realize now that they mount the tire on the scene. Didn't know they did that. And no, we have no way to store a 22 inch tire and with DH's bad back there's no way we could get it even out of the basement. Liked the idea of it on the roof... but then it's a real long way down to the ground and the thought of dropping it off the roof is a bit daunting.
So, we'll stick with coach net and keeping a close eye on the tires.
