Newbie moving off trawler to motorhome.

I'm in need of moral support with our transition from full time liveaboards to full time living in an rv. Anyone been there, done that? We will purchase our class A home this week as we just sold our trawler last night. The lifestyle has so many similarities which I like. Would love to interact with others who have made this transition

  • Our current rig is called "Downsize Abbey." The MH was "Motorbot." Our RVing started about the same time we stopped living aboard our 45' ketch, "Resolution" on the Maine coast for three months a year. Not full time, but a lot of time. Loved sailing, but love RVing and especially not worrying about whether the big CQR and 250' of BBB chain will hold through the storm. Other than the difference in surfaces outside your door/companionway hatch, the two lifestyles are very similar. You already know how to live with less stuff and to keep things shipshape. Those are the big challenges, I think, for most people who prepare to RV full-time. Another thing: Driving the RV across Kansas in a windstorm is challenging, but anyone who has endured a big passage at 6 knots, max, will understand how to be careful and patient!! Good luck and enjoy your new motorhome!
  • Our mh is named BAT. It's an acronym for big a$$ thing. This my wife dubbed it the first time I parked it in the driveway.
As a long time freshwater water boater I think you will find many simularties between the two. There lots of very knowledgeable people on this site, they have helped me many times.
No such thing as a dumb question!
    Enjoy your new adventure.
  • You will love that the MPG will be greatly increased. :)
And Campgrounds don't charge by the $$ foot.
  • Welcome to the forum. I have never lived on a Trawler, it was one of my goals but, life got in the way.
I'm sure you will love the RV lifestyle.
Some do name their RV's. Ask lots of questions on the forum, there is a lot of information and experience available. Just ask. :)
    Enjoy your travels.
