Newmar Dutchstar platform under passenger side sofa?

Hello- I have a 2013 4338 Dutchstar, replacing sofa passenger side due to vinyl peeling.....what is under the carpeted platform? This platform requires any replacement couch to have wooden side leg...

Looking at pictures online, I think it might basically be the front left wheel. It appears that the slide has a notch or stair-step on its bottom edge to clear the wheel and suspension components.

If that's the case, it's probably not very practical to remove the platform altogether.
