You just discovered why I don't like Xantrex Inverter/chargers with built in transfer switches.
Theirs are the only transfer switches that I know of that can fail on the passthru function as well as the invert function. It's like having a relay where the N/O, and the N/C, contacts both fail on any kind of relay failure. It's not intuitive to expect that behavior from a transfer switch. They will usually work in default (inactive) mode even when they won't activate.
Not SO with good old Xantrex.
