I believe the weight of the door contributes to the hinges breaking, but I was very surprised how light my raised panel equipped fridge door was when handling it to add the reinforcements. I think the worst of the weigh is what you store on the shelves on the inside of the door, and how rough the roads are that you drive on. Some people add an extra door shelf which adds even more weight on the hinges.
