Make sure the lever is all the way up. Then give the filter a good two handed twist. (Don't rip the housing off the wall though!)
GOT IT OFF !! Finally! Instruction manual said to turn it counter clockwise to remove. That's what I was trying to comply with. Happened to try it clockwise and it came right off with use of an oil filter wrench.
