oil radiator heater

We use ours year round but in the winter when it goes back to unplugged storage I blow the lines out with air. It's easy to recover.....put water in and go. I have been known to use heat too when I have power available until I can blow the lines out.

Prescott weather stats above. Avg. low temp in January....21 degrees. This means many nights considerably colder (and warmer). Personally I'd winterize during deep winter months.

You live in the Prescott Valley! I've lived in Phoenix the last few years and I while it may get a little cooler there than it does here I wouldn't waist my time winterizing if you use your rig any amount of time at all during the winter. A small oil filled heater on our worst days would be overkill. Even though it freezes once in a blue moon the day time temp more than compensates for it. It just never stays cold enough long enough to hurt anything.

I think Prescott Valley is chilly enough in mid winter to suggest winterizing. Running a lot of electric heat couldn't be cheap. But you could use the heater technique to cover cold snaps in the fall or spring seasons. Keeping your RV turnkey for more months of the year.

I kept one of the bigger oil heaters in a 24' TT in Oregon for 2 winters without winterizing. I mostly did it to keep out the moisture but it also kept lines from freezing. If its on all the time some of that heat will transfer through the floor and walls. I located the heater near the bathroom and kept it set with lower voltage switch on and the dial set on 2 most of the time and when it got down below 30 I turned it up to the max setting. All that said I have no idea if this will work for your setup. The one thing I do know is keeping a little heat in there sure keeps them smelling nice and new for years.

We use our MH year around so we do not winterize. I prefer to use a couple of small ceramic heaters set to low that move more air around to also help with mold and mildew. I place one on a 12x12 ceramic tile in the rear of the MH, and another one placed on the open oven door. I also set the MH's propane furnace to low that will circulate air within the MH and the "wet" compartments if the temperature gets below 35F, or the electrical power fails. I also have a heating pad with a thermal 35F switch that comes on in the compartment with water hook-ups and the exterior shower.

EDIT: I don't really want to be thinking about this now!

I could see it as a usable strategy if he lives in an area where freezes aren't intense. Where he uses RV all year long. Also does depend on where the plumbing is-such as mine with the plumbing and fresh tank in the walls or interior of RV.

So I think it is a good question-but there's a difference between a location like Kernville CA and Fargo ND-and he still hasn't chimed in with that.

Hi,

If you replace the return air grill for the furnace with a dual window fan and place the oil heater right in front of that it may keep the water lines from freezing.

Personally I would blow the lines and winterize.
