Old Hughes MotoSat equipment

Hello, we have an '06 RV with a Hughes MotoSat dish and associated equipment installed. This was installed by the prior owner and we are not using it. My questions to the community are:

1) Is anyone still using equipment this old?
2) Does anyone need equipment this old?

I am thinking of at least pulling out the boxes in our front equipment cabinet which has no room and gets too hot. I am also thinking of getting rid of the dish, too. But that's a project for another day and is a totally different animal.

Thanks in advance!

I know of one couple that's still using theirs for internet. Before going to the Canadian Rockies I converted mine to Direct HD so I would have TV in Jasper Canada. With the larger dish I never get rain fade. It also provides my location..."Where am I" below.
  • First, thank you all for replying to my post.

I had already called the new company about this dish and was told no-can-do. I was curious to know if people are still using them and if there's anyone that needs a replacement for the dish itself and the associated devices. After all, if they're that old--kind of going to be hard to find.

I hate to junk them though, so thanks for that lead, @Bill.Satellite. We hope to be in the Pacific Northwest next summer/autumn, so who knows, maybe we can just drop it off.

I just hope it's not too difficult to remove...

    1) Yes, but very, very few.

I would get rid of the dish as it has pretty much no value. You could contact Don Marr at Oregon RV Satellite and he might pay for the shipping to him if you can get it off the roof.
It's mostly junk these days compared to every other internet connection option. I quit selling the product in 2012 or so and that was a very good decision as MotoSAT went under around 2014 before re-emerging as RF Mogul shortly thereafter.
  • You don't say if you have or want access to satellite TV like Direct TV or DISH Network. Some of the folks who worked for Motosat started a company called RF Mogul in Utah. I have one of their Direct TV sat dishes and it is a quality piece. I believe they can provide the stuff, including the controller, to convert that dish for Direct TV and maybe DISH Network. Might be worth giving them a call.

    Google RF Mogul.
  • Still have our $5000 boat anchor on the roof, all boxes have been in storage for several years. I don't want to have to pay for removal, so there it rides down the road. Used Verizon MiFi before, while, and after we used it. It was great where there was no service out west, but slow and small amounts of data for the basic monthly service fee. All went down hill when original guys at Datastorm were forced out.
  • There are some areas of the country where satellite internet is the only choice plus some RVs have one.

However this equipment is largely replaced by cell service. I removed the Hughes dish etc that came with my rig. It had no significant value.
