Onan 5500 - too much fuel?

I have my Onan 5500 of my 36 Fiesta shut down with code 36. I saw fuel coming from the air filter, so I took it apart, empty the bowl, put some cleaner, tried again, same thing. I disconnected the fuel pump, started right up. Reconnected while running, after a few seconds it would try to stop. Disconnected the pump, surged right up. After a few minutes it runs out of fuel, sor I reconnect the pump for a few seconds and it runs great.
Could it be the that the fuel pump is pumping too much fuel? Any help will be appreciated!
