I had the 1000 hour service done on my coach in January 2017 at Cummins Ocala, Fl. They had to completely remove my generator from the coach to accomplish this service as it is not on a slideout tray. The outer covers had to come off to do this service.
Also for a heads up the generator was performing fine when I took it in. After removing all the outer panels the tech found a 50 cent piece of chunks of magnetic metal from the inside. After inspecting the stator and rotor assembly the pieces were determined to have come off the stator. He said they had an issue with this on some 2001-2004 Onan 7500 generators that the glue they used had caused the magnets to release.
They had to replace the stator and rotor which were almost $1800 for the 2 parts. Total bill was $2800 after all was finished. $1000 for the 1000 hour service.
I have heard of people removing them themselves by putting the rear of the coach on ramps to get it up higher and use a floor jack under the generator to lower it down, not something I was prepared to do.
Good luck!
