Start with the basics first, does it have spark? Remove the line from fuel pump to the carb and crank the engine is fuel being pumped out of the line? As jluke posted does it try to start when you spray carb cleaner or starting fluid into intake? If you have spark and it starts with starting fluid I would take a gal of gas and add 4-8 oz of Seafoam and run the genset for an hr to see if that clears up your problem. I have a 1996 GBM and have to crank mine from the genset itself also because my dash switch won't work either so I will be watching this thread for suggestions. Mine runs fine from a can of gas but won't pump from the main tank so I am waiting to use up the gas in the tank so I can drop it to check the hose going from the tank to the fuel pump. Let us know how you make out.
