- dalefujiExplorerI meant can 110 be plugged into inverter when house batteries are removed and house battery cable end taped off, so they don't touch each other.
- dalefujiExplorerQuestion- when 110 power is plugged into RV, I assume the charges the two house batteries, that I turn supply power to the 12 volt units. It must also provide power to 110 outlets. Can landline be plugged into inverter with house batteries in?
- dalefujiExplorerWhat normally starts generator, the battery that starts engine or the two house batteries. The house batteries are bad. The two 6 volt, not the one 12 volt.
- rgatijnet1Explorer IIII am guessing that you have a bad/weak chassis battery. When using the boost switch you bring the house batteries in to the circuit and they overcome the weak chassis batteries.
- dalefujiExplorerThat is both in series.

When you say the voltage went down to "almost six" volts, is that for BOTH of the batteries in series, or is that the voltage across one of them?
~Rick - dalefujiExplorerThank everyone for advice. Cable ends all good. I tried boost and gen button on dash and generator starts. My buddy put tester on aux. batteries and I then press start button at generator and reading went down to almost six (6) and not a sound from generator. I then went inside and pressed boost and gen. start on dash and generator starter. "BAD AUX, BATTERIES" fyi- THIS IS 1998 HOLIDAY RAMBLER 38' WITH 16' SLIDE ON DRIVERS SIDE. 51,000 AND IN EXCELLANT CONDITION. 19' AWNING.
- dalefujiExplorerThank you, I will try that first.
- Rick_JayExplorer III think it's dirty/corroded cables between the batteries and the generator.
The first thing I'd check is the ground cable connection to the generator. Disassemble each electrical connection, clean things up with some emery paper until everything is nice and clean & shiny. Then reassemble making sure all connections are tight.
DISCONNECT the GROUND CABLE(s) from the house & chassis batteries BEFORE doing anything. Make sure those connections are clean and solid too! When you're done cleaning up all of the other connections, reconnect the battery ground(s).
When you first try to start your generator, if it is "cold" it requires a higher than normal starting current to turn it over. You're losing some of your voltage and current (electrical power) due to the higher-resistance connections or poor cables. The clicking you're hearing is the starter trying to engage, but there's not enough electrical power being delivered to it to do the job. Once the generator has been started and warmed, even just a little, the current to start it is greatly reduced, so things seem to work then. Until next time.
The cheapest and first step for any such symptoms is to clean up the electrical connections.
Good Luck,
~Rick - dalefujiExplorer1. HELD STOP BUTTON IN FOR 30 SECONDS AND NO NOISE, THEN I PRESS START BUTTON AND I HEARD THE CLATTER NOISE. I WENT INSIDE RV AND STARTED THE MOTOR AND THEN WENT BACK OUT TO GENERATOR AND PRESS START BUTTON AND ON SECOND TRY THE GENERATOR STARTED. I THEN TURNED GENERATOR OFF AND WENT INSIDE AND TURNED MOTOR OFF ON RV AND PRESSED THE BOOST AND GENERATOR BUTTON ON DASH AND GENERATOR STARTED RIGHT UP.
2. I TESTED TWO AUX BATTERIES WITH WITH POWER CORD UNPLUGGED TO INVERTER.
6 VOLT BATTERIES TESTED 6.7 SEPERATE AND 13.2 TOGETHER.
I REALLY APPRECIATE YOUR IMPUT. THE TWO AUX BATTERIES ARE -
