Fireflock, for me I wanted to get a baseline, and have done 1 analysis on both the V10 and Onan. Mainly I wanted to disprove the going theory that one must change oil once per year regardless. I ran the Onan oil 28 months before changing and the oil had plenty of acid neutralizing capacity left as indicated by the TBN number.
Mlts, I used Blackstone Labs however there are many others such as Polaris. I agree on the synthetic, air-cooled is going to run hot so the hiigher flashpoint of synthetic will reduce oil breakdown. Currently running Mobil 1 0W-40 synthetic. Also has higher levels of the anti-wear elements zinc and phosphorus in ZDDP than a standard 10W-30 conventional or synthetic oil.
