I also had problems with my right front jack and thought it was a weak spring. HWH tech support suggested sending the jack back to them for rebuilding. Several on the forum suggested replacing the springs. I eventually did neither.
I've found that spraying the shinny part of the jack with silicone spray will lubricate the jack and speed up the retraction. I started doing that when they were slow to retract in 2003, and now retraction is under 15 seconds, probably closer to 5 or 6. My coach is 20 years old and the springs have never been changed.
Will this work for you? Don't know. It sure did for me. I've also changed the fluid (MD3) just for preventive maintenance sake. Oh, don't use WD 40 as that has some negative impact on the jack for some reason, according to several posters here.
