IMO, it's because you can't get HD with Direct TV using a portable or dome type dish. You must purchase an expensive Trav'ler. I will not watch anything but HD, so it was a no brainer decision for me.
This is not true. While you can't get DirecTV HD with a dome, a portable tripod based open face antenna will give you the same service you have at home or with a Trav'ler. Just takes a few more minutes to setup.
Guess I should have clarified (Fully Automatic)Portable dish. When I was looking at satellites, I didn't want to manually point a dish.
