I have a question for somebody, Why do most of the scammers advertise cars, trucks boats, and RV's of all kinds for right around $1500 when the unit is obviously worth $6000 and up? How can someone not see that as an obvious scam? I guess that people are so hungry for a good deal that they fall for these scams.
I probably delete 10 ads a week here in WI.
Couple reasons, part is as you guess to garb those who know the price is way to good but just can't ignore the ad in case it' really being sold for that low price. Another reason is way back those "how to successfully sell on Craigslist" presenters were telling folks to drop off the last zero of their price in the ad. Supposedly this puts your selling price in the too good to pass up category while enabling you to claim entry error when people contact you. It's plausible if the $18,500 asking price was "accidentally" listed as $1,850.
