Opinions on replacing tires

Hey all,

Hope everyone has been having fun out there! Have not been on the forums in several years. Sadly, have not been out in the coach either. My wife has lost interest in hitting the road. She wants to sell, I do not, BUT keeping the MH is not the best option, and I dragged my feet long enough.

My question is, will replacing tires which are 10 yrs old now and basically keeping ME from using it, achieve a quicker sale rather than dropping the price? I think so, she does not.

I feel if I were buying, I would want a coach that was ready to go, and didn't have to worry about the hassle of replacing them myself.

Any comments appreciated!

Ken
  • I may have started high, upper 20s but not firm and will listen to offers. I also offered to one potential that after we agreed on a price, I would install new tires.

I actually was trying to get buy in from the wife to replace, saying it would help the sale, BUT that would introduce the possibility of us using it in the time it takes to sell.

Tires look good, would have to do a really close inspect, but I don't take chances in that area.
  • How much you hope to get for 15 years old coach?
I am advertising my vintage Prevost for 1% of replacement cost and with lot of tire kickers, no takers.
How the 10 years old tires look? Any cracks?
Worse come to worse, I would get an estimate from tire shop and present it to potential buyer up front, so he will have no excuse to downplay it in last moment.
  • Thanks Dick. Not looking to increase the value, trying to stimulate a sale :)

In my personal, the cost of putting new tires will not significantly increase the value of your RV. The cost of the tires will not be recovered. The brand, model, condition and year of your RV will be the significant factors.
  • Yes, OK that sort of makes sense. I replaced once during ownership with Goodyears, but honestly I would not spend that money again for something that will not run up many miles or years. I had looked at the Hercules Ironman tires.
  • That depends what type of tires you get. Some people will want to buy the brand of tires that they prefer. I would lower the price and let the new buyer purchase the tires of his choice.
