We put over 100,000 miles on our 2001 Adventurer with the 310 hp V10 without a problem. The new owner plans to put just as many or more miles on it before he trades it in. We currently have a 2013 Adventurer also with the V10. It's already been to Alaska and back, plus a few more side trips.
Ford has had 3 versions of the V10 in the F53 motorhome chassis. The first was in 1999. It had only 275 hp. The second version came out in 2000. It put out 310 hp and 425 ft. lbs. of torque. The third and current version came out in 2005. It has 3 valves per cylinder and puts out 362 hp, and 457 ft. lbs. of torque. Just to confuse things Ford didn't make an F53 chassis designated as the 2005 model. They ran the 2004 model year with the 310 hp version and 4 speed transmission into early 2005. Then they introduced the current 3 valve per cylinder 362 hp version coupled to a 5 speed transmission and called it the 2006 model.
The engine itself has been around since 1997 and has had many different hp and torque ratings depending on the type of vehicle it was installed in. Most fleet customers report 250,000 miles or more without major issues.
Now lets not get carried away. I had one and it is a good engine, but does not compare with a diesel. They are good for around 150K vs a diesel 300K to 500K before they need overhaul.
I think you're seriously underestimating the longevity of the Ford 6.8 liter V10. Google "Ford V10 longevity" and you'll find several Ford truck forums where the many of the owners report 200,000+ miles and the trucks are still running strong. There are several that even report accumulated mileage over 300,000 miles
