Ordering from Winnebago

I am considering ordering a coach from Winnebago that's customized to my specs rather than just taking one off of a dealer's lot. Can any of you who have ordered from Winnebago (or anyone else for that matter) share some experiences and tips, please?

Thank you!
  • I just ordered a 2015. Will arrive in about 10 weeks. We found we could mix some of the colors and fabrics but for some combinations there was an extra charge and of course you have options for your coach and they will work with you if something is available in another coach and will fit. Often they will not fit. Things like towel bars and more outlets are installed locally. Enjoy your new coach. We traded for a Sightseer 35 G. Our 5th winnebago in 40 years.
  • If you are going to go to Iowa, you should talk to Lichtsinn RV in Forest City since they are 1 mile from the factory. That way you get to break it in on your way home. They also have good pricing and are great to work with and help you get what you want. 800-343-6255.
Link:Lichtsinn. We bought from them and it was a pleasure to deal with them for sales and financing.

Last count I had, Winnie does not allow orders directly from the factory. You have to go through a dealer.

there is a dealer "next door" almost that a lot of folks have bought from.

I'm going to go through a dealer in Maryland that I've done business with previously. I'm going to have to live with this coach for a long time and I want it to be right (for me). I'm going to do my Spring trip out to Iowa to see the plant, talk to Winnebago and, when the 15s are available, order.
  • We ordered our DSDP and specified what we wanted. We talked to the factory rep (who had many suggestions)and discussed every detail. We were not limited to the standard option list but added extra exterior lighting, non standard interior appointments, and additional circuits. I understand you can have about anything your budget can stand - just ask. You can even ask for factory delivery.

  • when I ordered my Chieftain I selected options, colors, wood, etc. at the dealer and had it built. they will (or would have) custom done things but would have built it on their production line and then moved it over to another building and done any non-standard custom work. I assume they still will do that.

As mentioned Winnebago does work through the dealers. However when we ordered our motorhome last year we went to the factory to look over some that were already built to see which options and colors we would like.

We got a personal tour of the factory and walked through at least a dozen new coaches. I remarked to our guide that several items that were available on our old coach were no longer listed as options. His response was that if we wanted a particular amenity we could order it if it was used on any Winnebago product regardless of whether it was a listed option on our particular coach. The only caveat was that any option we selected would have to physically fit in the motorhome we were ordering.

An example of an item that couldn't be accommodated was a 60" TV in an outside cabinet that was only 36" wide. Any requests within reason would be accommodated. We had to make the request through the dealer. The dealer would then forward it to the factory. If the request could be accommodated the factory would get back to the dealer with the price. If the request couldn't be accommodated the factory would tell the dealer why.

We were considering a couple options not listed in the price sheets or brochures. The dealer passed along the information and offered to have them installed at their cost if we decided to order a coach. We did in fact order a new coach and had the non-standard options installed.

That's very handy to know. I really like the Adventurer 38, but really do not want a residential fridge. I also would like to have a couple of 120 and 12 volt outlets in a couple of non-standard places.

I usually take my Mama on a Mother's Day trip each year. This year I think she's going to get an exciting trip to the Winnebago factory. :D

  • With Tiffin you can spec it out at the factory. They give you a copy of your spec sheet which you can then take to their dealers and order. After it is ordered you can get a build out schedule and go to Red Bay AL to watch it be built. From the order to being received by the dealer took about ten weeks for us. Ours was during the early part of the 2014 run.
