Everything depends on maintenance. I don't think a RV'er could wear-out a well maintained diesel engine. They really can go 1,000,000 miles or more, but that will not be for free.
I was at Prevost in Nashville several months ago having service done and a guy was there having the starter replaced on his 'entertainer' coach as he had 550,000 miles on a '09 unit. He felt that was about the life expectancy of a starter and didn't want a failure.
Preventive maintenance is your friend. I know a guy who changes out all his batteries at 5 yrs. He feels that is the full life of batteries and doesn't want the problems that come with bad batteries.
Everyone has to pick their comfort level.
