Over drive off light does not go on.

Howdy,
Just got a 2003 Winn. Mini 24' V10. When I push the button to turn the overdrive off (at the end of the shifter lever) no light come on and it does not shift down to 3 rd gear. Any one else have this problem on this chassis? Hoping it is the switch in the lever.
Thank you

^^^ Just so ^^^ We had a Ford van where OD Off wouldn't work. Turned out the wires that snake through the shift lever and down to GOK where were worried to the breaking point from shifter action. I was able to repair with flexible wire, splices and heat shrink tubing. Lasted till a tree fell on the van.

I think it's three wire. This is recall from years ago, but I believe the Switch/Light is Three Wires. One commands the PCM to lock overdrive out. It's a momentary contact switch, like a doorbell. One touch and Off, another touch On. The other two wires are for the Light. I forget if one of those two is a ground shared with the PCM command switch, perhaps it is.

We have two Fords with that switch now. One replaced the crushed van, the other is the RV chassis. My plan, if ours fail, is

    1. Get another Switch/Light Assembly.

    2. Make a nifty little bracket for Dash area and mount new Switch.

    3. Cut old wiring dead at base of Column, Wire to New Switch.

No way will I pull that column, and I believe that's what the manual calls for, as with that F150.
  • I had this happen in my f 150. it required a complete shifter replacement.
  • I would suspect the "tow/haul' function would do the same thing. I'd check the fuses then the switch contacts itself. In some vehicles its on the same circuit as the backup lights:

Are you sure it's an overdrive light? That button on my E450 is the "Tow/Haul" button.
