I'd say that your chances of your existing fuel pump failing are about the same as installed a new but flawed fuel pump.
We had the same worry about the vacuum pump in the plane (vacuum runs the attitude indicator and directional gyro - kinda important when flying in clouds). It had 500 hours on it, so we had it replaced during normal annual maintenance. New one lasted 50 hours.
