Are you asking about US101 or CA hwy1? 101 is a great drive and will be no problem except weather.

If you're talking about U.S. 101, it's an easy drive from its beginning in Olympia, Washington, to its end at Los Angeles. A bit twisty in parts of Oregon, but nothing your rig- and much bigger ones- can't handle.

I think the hwy 1 in calif might have a few hair pin turns and that would be the hardest part of the trip

Highway 101 is nice and easy to handle in your rig. CA1 is absolutely a beautiful drive, and shouldn't be a problem for your rig. It will be a much slower trip and will require careful driving in some tight spots. If you aren't pressed for time, I'd definitely take a run down 1, or at least mix it up a bit.

You might spend a nice quiet evening on this forum on this topic. There has been quite a bit of discussion. California SR 1, the Pacific Coast Highway, is arguably the most scenic road in all of America between San Luis Obispo and Leggett. You will have no issues with the Class C as logging trucks, folks with fifth wheels and travel trailers and even Class A RV's ply this route. Just take you time and know where your coach's wheels are when going around a corner. Don't let fear keep you from this route segment of your trip. Try to go through San Francisco after the morning commute and before the afternoon commute or after hours in the evening. Bay Area traffic can be considerable.

US 101 is a four lane highway and often miles from the ocean. It does got through the Redwoods, but you will miss Big Sur, Bodega Bay, most of the lighthouses, and most of the ocean. Come this far, see what you want not what is on the interstate routes or a busy four lane arterial highway.

Beautiful trip. Highway 101 is a major highway with only a few tight spots. An easy lovely drive with plenty of places to stop. Highway 1 is the road closest to the ocean. In many places it is the 101. Only the drive between Carmel and Morro Bay in California is to be missed. This is often listed as one of the most beautiful drives in the West, but in an RV you will be on the wrong side of the road, with shear drops into the rocks and ocean, hair pin turns so tight you see your own tail, and only two narrow lanes, with traffic driving much too fast in either direction. This is a good place to rent a car and make it an all day drive through Big Sur. The rest of the drive, through Washington, Oregon, Northern Ca, is safe and wonderful. Best to you and Happy Trails.

Put it in first gear and don't worry about the folks behind you. Pull over when safe. Your wife will white knuckle it a bit if you travel too fast. But the sights are worth it. Life is too short to miss that. Some things you just have to see with your own eyes. You cannot describe how big a giant redwood is. Or how huge the Grand Canyon is.

US 101 follows the coast down most of Oregon with beautiful scenery. Washington and California it heads a little inland but is still scenic. Personally, I wouldn't take your rig on Highway 1. Even in a car you can barely enjoy the view because of the twisty road along some of the most scenic areas. Plus the fact that you will hold up traffic. Some do take large RVs on it, though. I wouldn't.
