A good auto body/paint shop will have sample colours of virtually all paint colours used on different vehicles. These samples have the original colour as intended by the vehicle manufacturer and then all the all the variants in the colour, could be 10 or more variants for each colour. The shop may also have a computer scanner that can exactly match the paint as well.
