Not us. Once we factor in the fuel cost to the overall costs of the trip it becomes much less significant.

Our last big trip (month long) we took time off work without pay. THAT was the biggest financial factor but boy was it worth it.

I have an 07 with 18,000 honest miles. We have had sick parents ever since we bought it and don't take long trips or go very far. We are now down to 1 parent between us, and will start traveling more when she is gone.

It hasn't sat much though, we have taken monthly trips of 100 to 200 miles at least 9 months of the year since we bought it.

We used to motorhome tour and camp a lot in our younger days. We bought a new rig in 2003, took one local shakedown camping trip, then went from CA to WI and back. Started home remodel and wife was diagnosed with cancer. Lived in motorhome during much of remodel period and cancer treatments. Lost interest in motorhoming for a few years, replaced fridge and roof A/C that died, had rig checked over completely and serviced, installed six new tires, made a trip up the coast to Oregon and back, haven't gone anywhere since. Had awning fabric replaced. Still under 10K miles, nothing wrong with it except faded exterior graphics. If we sell in near future, it will be a real deal for somebody. Each rig is a separate case. Mileage is not the whole story and may be irrlevant. I would worry about the remaining life in all the housebox appliances, etc., when looking at a used rig. Replace tires over five years old. Have the chassis and drive train inspected by a pro truck mechanic to know what is needed and how much it will cost before deciding to buy or not .Set money aside in a bank account for eventual repairs and replacements, fridges and AC units are expensive

Bear is dead on. I would agree with most everything he wrote. (Except I usually tell people that a coach owned by non-retired will be luck to run 3~5kmi/year.) If the coach is owned by recently retired, then maybe they discovered that now they have more time they also want something else.

I think I'm just luck that DW loves both living in and driving our old coach.

When we bought our Motorhome in early 2009 gas prices were somewhat reasonable, around $2.60/gallon. We planned to use it more often for longer trips and did in the first 9 months. We put about 8,000 miles on it in less than a year. Then as gas prices started to rise above $3/gallon we took more trips closer to home. We use it a lot ofr day trips back and forth to the beach (15 miles one way) and the lake (5 miles one way). We use it a lot more than the mileage would suggest, just about 17,000 miles.

I have a 2008 with 20,000 miles. We camp a lot locally and do 1 or 2 long trips per year. We will do more when we retire. A lot of working people are similar to us, I think. We maintain it and enjoy it but we can't put thousands of miles on it every year. For the most part we camp not tour.

I know of a 95 with about 50K on it. Great shape too.

Don't fret... Look how fuel prices changed after 2008. Cramping a lot of camping.

Very good point and enabling us later comers to get better deals also.
