I just replaced the front and rear decals on my 5er last year. Heat gun and plastic scraper at first. Some came off without tooooo much trouble. Others very difficult. Especially those with lots of spider web cracks. Gave up and bought a 3M eraser wheel to use in my drill. That was easier. Not easy, but easier. One advantage of the eraser wheel was that a lot of the adhesive balled up with the decal pieces and flaked off while erasing. That left somewhat less adhesive remaining on the surface. But it does take a good drill as it really works it.
In both cases the remaining adhesive was removed using 3M Adhesive Remover. That took a lot of remover and a lot of rubbing.
