Penquin Noise

Can someone please help, I am new to RVing and experienced a loud rumbling noise when the heater started on a cool night. My unit has two Penguin low profile units on the roof. The rumbling noise was quit loud thru most of the night. Any ideas what could be causing this, and should I seek a service professional?

The warranty from Dometic is 1 year. The kit, if you are out of warranty is just a rubber damper feet for the compressor. This problem is not a warranty item unless you are still under the 1 year warranty. The original Penguins with the 410 coolant had this noise problem. They changed compressors once they realized the louder problem. You probably have one of the first Penguins before they fixed the problem. They will NOT offer any warranty assistance after the original warranty expired. IMO, the kit did not really change the noise that much. Doug
  • ok, thanks I will check and clean it up if necessary. If that doesn't help I will take it to a service tech.
  • When new, my AC was replaced twice in an effort to reduce that rumbling. The last one got it down to a tolerable level.
I would go up top and make sure the fan is perfectly clean. Even just normal dust and dirt build up can make it rougher. If that doesn't help then try rotating the clamp for the fan (up top) 180 degrees and see if it changes any.
  • Have you check the fan blades on the units. If they are build up with crud or a bad bearing they are loud.

  • If those units are new, Dometic has a kit to help with the vibration
