That's good news from the doctor so go for it! Th elevation is pretty high in Yellowstone and I don't think you'll come down in elevation much from there to Colorado Springs. You should be fairly well acclimated.
We had no problems at all either going up or coming down - no overheating or hot brakes. There's a point on the way down where you must stop and the rangers check your brakes with a heat sensor.
